EDMUND AMARKWEI FOLEY APPOINTED AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE LEGAL AID COMMISSION


The Legal Aid Commission is delighted to announce the appointment of Edmund Amarkwei Foley as the new Executive Director of the Commission.

With an illustrious career spanning over 20years in the legal industry, Director Foley brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of excellence to the Legal Aid Commission.

He has held numerous significant positions, including his recently held position as the Deputy Executive Director of Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA) and has in-depth knowledge of the African human rights system. Prior to this position, he was Head of the Public Law Department at the GIMPA Law School and also served as a Technical Advisor on Children and Gender at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The new Executive Director’s specialties lie in international human rights litigation and advocacy, negotiation, and mediation. He holds an LLM in Human Rights and Development in Africa from the University of Pretoria and has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals worldwide. He is also an active member of the Ghana Bar Association demonstrating a commitment to the highest standards of legal practice and community service.

In his new role, Director Foley will provide strategic leadership, technical and administrative direction for the achievement of the mandate of the Commission. He will work closely with Board, Management and Staff of the Commission to further enhance the Legal Aid Commission’s reputation for bringing justice to the doorstep of the indigenes.

The Governing Board and entire staff of the Legal Aid Commission welcome Director Edmund Amarkwei Foley and congratulate him on his appointment.
